Livia Eberlin
Eberlin leads research in the use of mass spectrometry to detect cancerous tissue. Her invention, the MasSpec Pen, holds great promise for improving the effectiveness of surgery performed on cancer patients by drastically reducing the time it takes to detect cancerous tissue and improving the accuracy of detection. An adjunct faculty member in UT Austin’s department of chemistry, Eberlin is the winner of a MacArthur Fellowship, a Moore Inventor Fellowship and a SXSW Interactive Innovation Award.
