Grace Hopper, an American computer scientist and US Navy Rear Admiral, whose computing innovations included development of a new programming language and the implementation of standards for testing computer systems and components for early programming languages like COBOL and FORTRAN. She received the National Medal of Technology and the Presidential Medal of Freedom and had a military vessel, the USS Hopper, named after her. Text Credit: Beyond Curie.
