Ray Floyd Wilson, ’53

Wilson, the first African American to earn a Ph.D. at UT Austin, was a WWII veteran and a faculty member in chemistry at Texas Southern University in Houston for 42 years. He published more than 80 papers in scientific journals, served as the L. Lloyd Woods Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, secured a law degree and served as a counselor to former Texas Congresswoman Barbara Jordan.
