Vera Rubin

 

Vera Rubin, an American astronomer, pioneered work on galaxy rotation rates and identified a discrepancy between the predicted angular motion of galaxies and the observed motion. Her research contributed to the discovery of dark matter. She transformed modern physics and astronomy and was awarded the National Medal of Science. Text Credit: Beyond Curie.
